Beautiful,
black, vintage table lamp, "N71", for sale !
The lamp was designed by
the French manufacturer Jumo in 1935, with a "weak" reference to Eileen Gray. The name "Jumo" is derived from the names of its founders, Jujeau and Mounique and it is likely that André Mounique was the designer of the N71 model, not Eileen Gray, as many claims.
It has a
brass-colored, adjustable arm, shade and lamp base are lacquered in a beautiful
black, silky matte color. The patina on the brass details stands out beautifully
against the black, this is really a great lamp!
The double arm can be tilted
both forwards and backwards, and the reflector screen can be rotated with its own
axis. The lamp is in excellent vintage condition, with a fantastic patina on the
brass, in accordance with age and use. The lamp has been given a contemporary
braided supply wire and a new earthed plug, all electrical work has been carried
out by a professional. It is equipped with 2 new Ledvance LED minion bulbs
with an old-fashioned "G22" base, which corresponds to 2 x 40w, so it
gives a really good, comfortable and warm light.
The lamp and is carefully cleaned
and overhauled, without weakening the beautiful patina. This one is now ready for
its new home! It has built up a beautiful and natural patina, after 70-80
years of use, and I have chosen to leave the brass in its original condition, as
that type of patina is only original once. The lamp's new owner can consider polishing
it up, if desired.
The lamp is not "like new", it has its light signs
of use "here and there" (see pictures) but this does not affect the impression
to any great extent, as this is a very old lamp. The stylish appearance of this
lamp makes it fit very well into all types of homes!
Despite the common misattribution, the Jumo
N71 remains an iconic example of Art Deco and modernist French industrial
design from the mid-20th century.
