Selling a beautiful and highly charming "Tandberg Sølvsuper 6 FM de Luxe" (Cabinet Model 6) radio console from around 1955. This is a genuine piece of Norwegian industrial and design history from Tandberg's Radio Factory in Oslo.
The unit features iconic tambour doors (accordion-style sliding doors) that conceal or reveal the radio and storage compartment. The handles and the front speaker fabric are intact and in good condition.
This particular unit is uniquely complete: the original price tag (original price 1,290 NOK in 1955!), the original warranty card, and the old broadcasting license card are all still attached at the back.
The radio is not currently working (typical for units that have been in long-term storage). The internal components are completely original and untouched—perfect for a knowledgeable collector looking to restore it, or for someone wanting to remove the internals and convert the unit into a unique drinks cabinet or retro sideboard.
Generally in good condition, though the top surface shows some normal wear and scratches in the finish after 70 years (see photos); it could easily be sanded down and oiled or lacquered to look pristine.
Dimensions:
• Width: 90 cm,
• Height: 85 cm,
• Depth: 46 cm.
Important safety warning ⚠️
This unit has been unused for many years, so the plug should not be connected directly to a wall outlet. Old electronic components (especially electrolytic capacitors) dry out over time. If the radio is suddenly subjected to 230V voltage after decades in storage, the capacitors could short-circuit, start smoking, or—in the worst-case scenario—destroy the irreplaceable transformers. The radio should be powered up gradually by someone with a variable transformer (Variac) or checked by a knowledgeable person first.
